it's Friiiiiiiidaaaaay the 13th!!!  Ahhhhhh!!!  All you superstitious people out there will be happy to know that today was actually a lucky day as it was great!  We were busy little bees and I actually felt like there wasn't enough time to get everything done because we were on a roll!

a.m. activities:

MATH: we completed our "Cover Up" game in partners and had enough time for each pair to declare a winner!  This game puts an emphasis on our multiplication facts and skills.

 WRITING: worked on our personal narrative prompts and then got into groups to go over them.  I feel it is beneficial to always have peer conferencing and input so we are sharing from an author's AND a reader's standpoint.  Most students have decided the topic of their pieces and we are ready to begin drafting our first paragraph.

SCIENCE: we learned about the 6 main simple machines (inclined plane, screw, wedge, lever, wheel and axle, and pulley) and also other common simple machines such as gears.  We then took a scavenger hunt around the school to locate objects that have these simple machines.  For example, the flag pole has a pulley, a broom is a lever, a staple or a tack is a wedge, the ramp in the cafeteria is an inclined plane, and a cart has wheels and axles.

HOMEWORK: complete the at home Simple Machine Scavenger hunt (both sides of the sheet).  This is due back by Monday.  If you do not have a garage at your house, simply picture things that might go in a garage to fill out on the sheet.

PM activities:
we had a wellness walk outside and then had book buddies with Mrs. Hubers's Kindergarteners.  It was a great afternoon!
