Mara and Lily all dressed up and ready to dance!
Hey guys!  Sorry about not posting on Thursday.  I left school really quickly to get home and catch the UK game and then forgot to update!  Again, I am REALLY sorry because some great things happened on that day!  First of all, Happy Belated St. Patrick's day to you...I hope you were well and wonderful!  We got the experience of a lifetime because we got to see some Irish Dancers come and dance for us so we could learn about many of the traditions of that culture...it was really neat.  See my post below where I have explained what it is and posted some videos.  One of the videos is really long (and of course, it's the best and MOST exciting) and I'm having trouble uploading it, but you can watch the other three for now to get the gist of what we got to experience!
Lily McSpadden (left) and Mara Flaherty (right) are two of the girls from GSE in the McTeggart's Irish Dancing group.

Tabitha was lookin' swell in some GREEN!!!

representing the luck of the IRISH!
Also, Mrs. Lyons (Alyssa's mom) came and gave us some magic water!  She told us how a leprechaun had come to their house in the morning and turned everything green...from their juice to their breakfast!  Therefore, she shared some of the magical color changing water with us!  Isn't she the COOLEST?!?  Here are some pics of the magic water in action....
TJ's turned GREEN!

Aiden's turned yellow!

Maddy got GREEN!
Me with our beautiful girls! We were so proud of them!!!

Cam got ORANGE!

NOW...onto our day today (Monday, March 21st, 2011)

READING:
We turned in our Spelling packets from last week and those who were not gone to QUEST took the test.  Those who WERE gone to QUEST will turn in their packets tomorrow and take the test then as well.  I passed out our new packets which is Lesson 8.  These will also be due Monday (last time) because our UK student teacher will be teaching a lesson during our normal test taking time for spelling.  Therefore, you have extra time to finish your packets again!  In class, we worked on creating a 'Memory game' for our words for this week.  On one card the word was written; on a separate card, the definition was given as well as a picture to represent the word and a sentence in which the word could be used.  Once students finished making the game, they played with a classmate.  Play with someone at home as it will really reinforce the spelling words by raising awareness of their contextual usage.
HOMEWORK: per usual Monday night assignment, complete ONE activity of your choice from "think-tac-toe, or tic-tac-toe.

MATH:
we took our unit test over graphing and data analysis.  Tomorrow, we begin....FRACTIONS!!!
HOMEWORK: none

PM activities:
we put our knowledge of persuasive letter writing to the test by writing a persuasive letter to Mr. Canizal as we would like him to come and teach us Spanish!  We found it really cool that we were actually writing in hopes of persuading someone to actually do something.  We really had to put our skills to the test and work hard on convincing him to come.

I hope you have a magnificent Monday!
xoxo,
Mrs. Thomas

P.S. Below are some pictures from Bob's latest adventures with Alyssa!  He got to go home with her over the weekend which was her birthday...so he even got to go to her birthday party at Build-a-Bear, AND got to go horseback riding with Alyssa's girl scout group!
